–On February 15th, North Coast Engineering Chief Operations Officer and Vice President, Christy Gabler, was invited to be the keynote speaker at the “Better Together EdTalk Central Coast” in San Luis Obispo. The event was an opportunity for educators to learn more about California’s Next Generation Science Standards (NGSS). The NGSS are California’s newest expectations for scientific literacy.

At the sold-out event, Gabler shared her insight on the importance of STEM and Career Education in schools to best prepare students for their futures in the 21st Century, and beyond – something she’s been passionate about and involved in for many years.

“Leaders in the workforce have an opportunity to get involved on the front line of education by participating in the programs that the San Luis Obispo County Office of Education has made available to students and employers, alike,” says Gabler. “The “Just 1” program is only one example, which provides work experience and on-the-job training for students. What better way to train our future workforce so that they are better prepared for their future professions?”

In addition to Gabler’s keynote address, the EDTalk attendees enjoyed presentations from three local educators on their experiences implementing the new Next Generation Science Standards, and heard from two local high school students about their experience with the content that supports the new standards, “NGSS Mindset.” The evening concluded with an opportunity to network and interact one-on-one with the speakers.
