John Sanders Retires After 33 Years with North Coast Engineering

John Sanders was the Principal Surveyor and Survey Manager of North Coast Engineering from 1987 until his retirement in December 2020. Over his 33 years at North Coast Engineering, Mr. Sanders built and ran a well-known, respected, and successful survey department. His unwavering work ethic, attention to detail, knowledge of local and state laws and statutes, and his uncanny ability to effectively build relationships with everyone from local politicians, public employees, engineers, contractors, and clients made him a welcome presence in any situation he was a part of. Mr. Sanders has been involved in projects covering every corner of San Luis Obispo County and was a driving force behind the majority of the commercial and residential developments in Paso Robles. Besides North Coast Engineering, Mr. Sanders was also an active member of the local community. He actively participated in the local chapter of the California Land Surveyor’s Association and even served a short stint as the President. He is an active member of Rotary and can be found manning the BBQ at most of thier fundraisers. Mr. Sanders will be staying active in his retirement as the City Surveyor for Atascadero and Paso Robles and as an integral member of the local CLSA professional practices committee.  Thirty-three years of institutional knowledge is invaluable, and Mr. Sanders has made it clear that he is always just a phone call away. 

Tucker Sanders has taken over for John Sanders as North Coast Engineering’s Principal Land Surveyor and Survey Manager. He has been an employee with North Coast Engineering since 2015. Working under John Sanders, he has instilled the same attention to detail and work ethic that North Coast Engineering is known for and we are excited for the future of the survey department moving forward. Since he started working for North Coast Engineering, Tucker has really been pushing the boundaries of the surveying department’s technological abilities.  We are now fully equipped with the latest and greatest robotic total stations, GPS equipment and are one of the few companies in the area with their own in-house aerial mapping program utilizing our own survey-grade mapping drone.  The ability to combine the newest technology with the knowledge and rock-solid foundation of the survey department John Sanders built puts North Coast Engineering in a position to continue being one of the premier Civil Engineering and Surveying firms in San Luis Obispo County.
