During the ASCE San Luis Obispo Branch luncheon on Thursday, July 20, 2017, North Coast Engineering and the City of Atascadero were recognized for their contribution to the improvement of the Highway 41 corridor.  For decades, a dirt trail along the Atascadero Creek has been riddled by ground squirrel holes.  The paved multi-use path between Portola Road and San Gabriel Road was completed in May of 2017 and now provides a stable surface for travelers of all modalities.  Now open, the path is heavily used by those seeking a stroll outdoors along the oak covered path.

Also discussed at the July 20th ASCE meeting was the recently completed Highway 41 Corridor Study which provides the build-out vision for the stretch of the highway between El Camino Real and San Gabriel Road.  The study included the anticipated upgrade of the existing dirt trail along the Atascadero Creek as well as the vision for future improvements along the corridor to provide safe passage for pedestrians, bicycles, and vehicles both traveling to and through the corridor.  North Coast Engineering participated in the Corridor Study as well, providing support to lead transportation engineer Whitlock & Weinberger Transportation.  Improvements along the corridor are anticipated to begin soon, in cooperation between Caltrans and the City of Atascadero.
