About this Project
In 2011 the City of Atascadero was interested in constructing a prefabricated free-span Bowstring Truss type pedestrian bridge over Atascadero Creek. In 2017 this bridge was constructed and provides a scenic connection between the original City Hall near Sunken Gardens and the existing City hall offices along Capistrano Avenue. A complex project that required the construction of two plazas, approximately 970 liner feet of concrete, accessible paths, construction of a 33,000 square foot parking lot, and placement of a prefabricated pedestrian bridge with a span of 150 lineal feet to connect the historical Sunken Gardens to the opposite side of Atascadero Creek. Because the project is located so close to Atascadero Creek, careful planning and permitting was required to begin construction. LID principles and the underground retention storage were used to mitigate the new impervious material.
