NCE Survey Crew Tests Out New Trimble SX12 Scanning Total Station

North Coast Engineering recently acquired a new Trimble SX12 Scanning Total Station, and we are off and running. The Trimble SX12 takes a 3D scan of its surroundings at a frequency of up to 26,000 points per second with at or better accuracy than traditional survey methods. Being able to integrate scan data into our typical topographic survey process has truly revolutionized the level of detail, accuracy, and type of structures that we can pick up during our survey.

In addition to integrating into our standard topographic survey procedures, we’ve been able to branch out into a couple of different markets that we’ve historically not pursued or struggled to do efficiently.

Right out the gate, we put our survey team to work scanning Georgia Brown Elementary School in Paso Robles, an approximately 5.5-acre site with tons of tricky architecture and ramps that would have presented a number of challenges with traditional methods.

Moreover, we have successfully completed and can now offer ASTM E1155 pad certifications as well as being able to create a very user-friendly “heat map” of high and low spots across a concrete pad down to sub 0.005’ accuracy.
